The History

In 1775, a group of Baptist Believers met in the south western part of Buckingham County, Virginia in an area known as Maynard’s Corner and formed what is today known as Liberty Chapel Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Elder Gabriel Walker, who was a Baptist missionary to the Native Americans in the area, the church grew and flourished. On September 27th and 28th, 2025, we celebrated our 250th birthday with our community.

On Saturday, September 27th, we had a day of fun and educational activities on the church grounds. We had the Fincastle Company Militia encamped at the church, along with various historical speakers, such as Patrick Henry and Lord Dunmore, artisans demonstrating crafts of the 18th Century with some selling their products such as soap, pottery and honey, along with 18th Century games and toys. Food was available from Hoof and Feathers food truck, Baines Coffee and other local food vendors. Music was provided throughout the day by Deeply Rooted and Fishers of Men.

On Sunday, September 28th, we had a day of praise and worship, thanking our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for allowing us to be a light for Him in this community for 250 years. We had Worship Service at 11:00am where we will recognize special guests, followed by lunch.
